Book Review for Catching Fire

If you have read my last post you will see that I loved the first book in this series called the Hunger Games. The second book starts off where the last one finished. It talks about Katniss’s return to district 12 and how she and Peeta are coping with being back in district 12. They are now under the watchful eye of the capital and start to see more and more peacekeepers in town. Katniss’s and Peeta’s rebellion did not sit well with President Snow and now Katniss may be paying the price.

This book deals with the consequences of Katniss’s rebellion and also the changing tide in the districts. Talk of possible uprising and rebellion comes out. The capital forces Katniss and all the other champions from past Hunger Games back into the ring. This sends shockwaves to all of the districts and this act shows that the capital is still in control over the districts. This second book deals more with the love triangle of Katniss, Gayle and peeta plus the issues of a possible rebellion.

I found this book just as good as the first one a bit slower in the beginning but then you get caught up again in the story. I am now reading the last of this series Mockingjay and will follow with another book review.

So far this series does not disappoint and I highly give it four stars! If you liked the first one you will enjoy the characters again in the second and third book of the series.

Book Review for the Hunger Games

the Hunger Games

I have been wanting for some time to get back into reading for fun and not just for business or school. I found that there was a lot of buzz going around about a book called the Hunger Games. So this made me very curious about the book and then I saw the movie trailer for the movie coming out in early 2012. I decided that I was going to read the book series before the movie came out. I wanted to get a jump on reading the book first so I went online and ordered it and the next in the series called Catching Fire.

The story is about the future of North America and how it goes through some kind of nuclear destruction. North America becomes a place called Panem and is made up of 12 districts. Each district is ruled over by the capital where all of the government officials live. The main character of the book is a young seventeen year old girl named Katniss Everdeen. She lives in district 12 with her mother and her sister.

They are all very poor in most all of the districts except the capital. Katniss hunts to keep her family alive even though this is a forbidden act. The capital makes all of the districts hold an annual event called the Hunger games in which one boy tribute and one girl tribute from every district must compete. They compete to the death and the sole winner will be crowned the winner of the Hunger Games. The winner gets to live a life of luxury for them self and their family members. The Hunger Games are televised on television and everyone in Panem is forced to watch these games like they were the Olympics. People even cheer for them and pick tributes to sponsor. This is not a voluntary game and every family with children between the ages of 12 and 18 must enter their children into the drawing. The capital did this to stop the districts from trying to rebel against them like they did a long time ago and so they started the Hunger Games to keep them in line.

The book is very fast paced and you become addicted to the storyline and characters very easily. There are a lot of stories going on with the characters of the Hunger Games and also the main character and her relationship with each one of them. This is a really good book that paints a very detailed picture in your mind. I am very curious to see if the movie will be half as good as the book since there is so much detail involved. I highly recommend this book to anyone over the age of 13 who likes to read about science fiction and who liked Harry Potter and the Twilight type stories.
